On Monday, 8 July 2024, during the morning rush hour, the Russian Federation launched a massive missile attack on Ukrainian cities. As of 14:00, 17 people were killed and 66 injured in the morning attack. Numerous residential buildings and civilian infrastructure in the cities of Kyiv, Kryvyi Rih, Dnipro and Pokrovsk sustained significant damage.
In Kyiv, multi-storey buildings, garages, cars and private buildings were damaged. There were fires in residential areas and in business premises. The Okhmatdyt children's hospital suffered significant damage. Children who were in the hospital at the time of the attack were evacuated to other medical facilities. The rubble is being cleared, and there may be victims under it.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said: "Now that the hospital has been damaged by a Russian strike, there are people under the rubble, and the exact number of victims is still unknown. Now everyone is helping to clear the rubble - both doctors and ordinary people. Russia cannot help but know where its missiles are flying, and it must be held fully accountable for its crimes: against people, against children, against humanity in general. It is very important that the world does not remain silent about this now and that everyone sees what Russia is and what it is doing."
Total losses:
Kyiv: 17 killed and 66 injured.
Kryvyi Rih: 10 killed and 41 injured. The city was hit by several shells, including one that hit the administrative building of an industrial enterprise.
Dnipro: 1 killed and 6 injured. A multi-storey building, an enterprise and a service station were damaged.
Pokrovsk: The hit to the enterprise resulted in 3 deaths.
Civilian objects and infrastructure in several Ukrainian cities were damaged by the missile attack. The government and rescue services are working to eliminate the consequences and help the victims.
President Zelenskyy said that after the Russian attacks on 8 July 2024, Ukraine would initiate an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council.
